The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Ikechukwu Emetu, has dismissed claims that he threatened Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu. The rebuttal follows the circulation of a viral publication alleging that the deputy governor vowed political retaliation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Chukwudi Mba, Emetu described the report as false, misleading, and deliberately crafted to misrepresent his position. The statement stressed that the publication lacked credible details such as the date, venue, or context where the alleged remarks were made.
According to the deputy governor’s office, Emetu never issued threats against the President or members of his family. The statement further clarified that he never made comments suggesting political consequences tied to the detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra.
The statement added that the language attributed to the deputy governor does not reflect his personality or leadership style. It emphasized that Emetu remains committed to democratic values, civil engagement, and issue-based political discourse rather than inflammatory rhetoric.
While acknowledging the sensitivity surrounding Kanu’s detention, the deputy governor maintained that such matters should be resolved through constitutional processes and constructive national dialogue. His office also raised concerns over the publication of unverified statements capable of heightening political tension and misleading the public.
Emetu reaffirmed his loyalty to supporting Alex Otti in advancing governance reforms and development initiatives across the state. The denial comes amid growing political conversations online, with his office insisting that the circulating claims are entirely fabricated and should be disregarded.
