House of Representatives

The Minority Caucus in the House of Representatives has become divided over calls for President Bola Tinubu to resign following the worsening security situation across Nigeria.

The disagreement emerged after some members of the caucus publicly demanded the President’s resignation, arguing that the persistent wave of insecurity, including killings, kidnappings, and attacks in several parts of the country, requires political accountability.

However, other members of the caucus distanced themselves from the position, insisting that the call for Tinubu’s resignation was not the official stance of the entire Minority Caucus.

The lawmakers maintained that while the security challenges confronting the country are serious and require urgent action, individual opinions should not be interpreted as the collective position of the opposition lawmakers in the House.

The dissenting members emphasized the need for constructive engagement with the executive arm of government to address the nation’s security concerns rather than deepening political divisions.

They also called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts to combat terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of violent crime affecting communities across the country.

The development underscores differing approaches within the opposition on how best to respond to Nigeria’s security challenges as public concern over rising insecurity continues to grow.

Political observers say the division reflects broader debates within opposition parties over strategies for holding the government accountable while advancing alternative policy solutions.
