Human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) leader, Omoyele Sowore, is expected to return to court as proceedings in his ongoing legal case continue.
Ahead of the hearing, the South-East chapter of the African Action Congress (AAC) condemned the decision to remand Sowore at the Kuje Correctional Centre, describing the action as unjust and politically motivated.
The party called for his immediate release, arguing that the remand undermines democratic principles and the constitutional rights of citizens.
According to the AAC South-East, Sowore has consistently honoured legal processes and should not be subjected to continued detention while his case is still before the court.
The chapter urged the judiciary to ensure that justice is administered fairly and without external influence, stressing that the rule of law must remain the foundation of Nigeria’s democratic system.
Party members and supporters also appealed to relevant authorities to respect Sowore’s fundamental rights and guarantee a fair hearing throughout the judicial process.
The case has continued to attract national attention, with political groups, civil society organisations, and rights advocates closely monitoring developments.
The court is expected to hear pending applications in the matter as proceedings resume.
