The Presidency and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi have exchanged words over calls for President Bola Tinubu to resign amid Nigeria’s worsening security challenges.
The disagreement followed remarks by Obi, who expressed concern over the country’s deteriorating security situation and urged the President to take decisive responsibility for addressing the crisis.
In response, the Presidency rejected the call, insisting that President Tinubu remains committed to confronting insecurity and implementing measures aimed at restoring peace across the country.
Presidential officials argued that the administration has continued to support security agencies through increased funding, improved intelligence gathering, and enhanced military operations against criminal groups operating in different parts of Nigeria.
The Presidency also maintained that insecurity is a longstanding national challenge inherited from previous administrations and requires sustained efforts rather than political rhetoric.
Obi, however, insisted that Nigerians expect stronger leadership and tangible results in tackling killings, kidnappings, and other violent crimes affecting communities nationwide.
He emphasized that ensuring the protection of lives and property remains the foremost constitutional responsibility of any government and called for urgent action to reverse the current security trend.
The exchange has further intensified political debate over the Federal Government’s handling of insecurity as concerns continue to grow over the safety of citizens across the country.
