Gunmen have abducted the Secretary of Kibiya Local Government Area in Kano State, identified as Hamza Durya, in a late-night attack on his residence.
The Kano State Police Command confirmed the incident on Saturday, stating that the victim was taken from his home in Durya village within Kibiya Local Government Area.
According to the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, security operatives have been deployed to secure the safe release of the official.
He said the command’s anti-kidnapping squad, alongside area commanders and divisional officers, had been mobilised to track down the abductors and rescue the victim.
“The victim was abducted at his residence, and all hands are on deck to rescue him safely,” the police commissioner said.
Residents were also urged to provide credible information that could assist security agencies in their operations.
Reports indicate that the abduction occurred during a night raid, with suspected bandits storming the residence and taking the local government official to an unknown destination.
The incident has heightened concerns over insecurity in parts of northern Nigeria, where cases of kidnapping for ransom have continued to pose significant challenges.
Authorities say efforts are ongoing to ensure the victim’s safe return and bring those responsible to justice.
