Gov. Alex Otti at a grand civic reception held in his honour by the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency

Stakeholders from the Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency of Abia State have thrown their full weight behind Governor Alex Otti’s second-term ambition, declaring in unequivocal terms that there is no vacancy in the Abia State Government House ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement, which has drawn widespread attention in Abia political circles, reflects the growing momentum of support for the Labour Party governor whose administration has been credited with a wave of visible infrastructure and governance reforms since assuming office in May 2023.

The member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency on the platform of the Labour Party, Hon. Obi Aguocha, had previously made the constituency’s position clear, declaring that Governor Alex Otti of the LP would be re-elected at the next general election based on his performance.

Aguocha, who chairs the House Committee on Monitoring and Evaluation of all Standing and Ad-Hoc Committees, made the position of his constituents known in the context of growing opposition noise from the APC and former governors of the state who had signalled their intent to unseat Otti in 2027.

Responding to comments by House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Hon. Benjamin Kalu that the APC would take over Abia State in 2027, Aguocha reminded the Bende federal constituency lawmaker that anyone who does not appreciate Dr Alex Otti is an avowed enemy of progress, adding that for almost 24 years, the current administration is the first time Abia has awakened to extraordinary leadership and governance strides.

Stakeholders from the four clans of Ikwuano Local Government Area — Ariam, Oboro, Ibere, and Oloko had also passed a resolution at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Isiala Oboro headquarters of the council, declaring their commitment to returning Otti for a second term, warning that doing otherwise would retard the development of the state.

They listed projects being handled by the Otti administration in Ikwuano to include the Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene–Uyo highway, Ehim bridge, Ariam Uskaka ring-road, Ibere–Okporoenyi road, reconstruction of Iberenta gully erosion, internal access roads, and the building of night markets and houses for the vulnerable.

In a related solidarity visit to the governor at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, a delegation of over 2,000 Ohuhu people from Umuahia North LGA endorsed Governor Otti for a second term, stating that the governor had rewritten the story of Abia State for good.

The endorsement drive has also attracted respected civil society voices. A broad coalition of key stakeholders and political leaders from Ikwuano LGA selected human rights lawyer and social critic Uche Ubani to serve as Leader of Governor Otti’s Second-Term Campaign Coordination in the local government area, a decision reached during an expanded consultative meeting in Umuahia chaired by the Political Adviser to the Governor, Hon. Acho Obioma.

Ubani, who served as a prominent member of the Alex Otti Transition Committee in 2023, said his decision to join the campaign was guided purely by principle, stating that Otti had moved Abia from a state of potholes and excuses to a state of projects and excellence.

With the 2027 elections still over a year away, the momentum of constituency-level endorsements across Abia signals that Governor Otti enters the campaign season with a formidable grassroots coalition and a constituency that has made its verdict unmistakably clear.
