The City Boy Movement has appointed former Super Eagles defenders, Shehu Abdullahi and Kenneth Omeruo, to sports-related positions in its national leadership structure.
The appointments were announced on Thursday by the movement’s National Director of Media Monitoring and Rapid Response and member of its National Working Committee, Bashir Ahmad.
According to Ahmad, Abdullahi was appointed National Deputy Director of Sports, while Omeruo was named National Assistant Director of Sports.
Ahmad, while announcing the appointments, welcomed the two former internationals to the organisation.
Abdullahi, 33, represented Nigeria at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and was also part of the Super Eagles squad that finished third at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
Omeruo, 32, has similarly enjoyed an extensive international career with Nigeria. The former defender featured for the Super Eagles at the 2014 and 2018 FIFA World Cups.
The appointments bring the two former national team players into the leadership structure of the City Boy Movement, a political support group with a national organisational network.
The movement has in recent months placed emphasis on youth engagement, grassroots mobilisation and civic participation as it develops its organisational structure.
The State House had earlier reported that the group’s national retreat in Abuja focused on grassroots mobilisation, greater youth participation and public engagement. (State House Abuja)
The specific programmes and responsibilities to be undertaken by Abdullahi and Omeruo in their new sports positions were not disclosed in the announcement.
Their appointments, however, add two former Super Eagles players with international football experience to the movement’s leadership team.
