The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party has concluded its Abia State primaries in commanding fashion, with Engr. Henry Eze winning the House of Representatives ticket for Aba North and Aba South Federal Constituency with 256,000 votes, while the faction’s gubernatorial candidate Hon Ceekay Igara swept to victory with a staggering 8 million votes.

The double victory is being seen across political circles as a powerful statement of the Abure faction’s organizational strength and grassroots reach in Abia State, ahead of what promises to be a fiercely contested 2027 general election.

The governorship result is particularly striking. A 750,000-vote to defeat his closet rival who got 10,000 votes in an intra-party primary underscores the depth of mobilization the faction has achieved across the state’s 17 Local Government Areas, and positions its governorship candidate as a formidable force in the race to succeed the current Abia administration.

At the federal constituency level, Eze’s 256,000 vote margin in the Aba North and Aba South primary reflects similar momentum. His emergence as the faction’s flag bearer caps a process that began dramatically when the Abure-led leadership issued him a free nomination form, a move that generated widespread reactions and was described at the time as a political earthquake in Abia’s electoral landscape.

Eze had previously expressed confidence that the Supreme Court would rule in the Abure faction’s favour in the ongoing national Labour Party leadership dispute, which revolves around the recognition of Usman Namadi as national chairman.

He pledged the group remained fully prepared and legally positioned to contest 2027, regardless of the turbulence at the party’s national level.

Speaking after his emergence, Eze outlined his vision for constituents infrastructural development, youth empowerment, inclusive governance, and improved welfare for the people of Aba North and Aba South pledging responsive and accountable representation in the House of Representatives.

Ward leaders and stakeholders from across both constituencies witnessed the process, reflecting the faction’s growing footprint in the commercial capital of Abia.

With both the governorship and federal constituency primaries now concluded, the Abure faction has drawn first blood in the 2027 race.

Political analysts say the results send a clear signal to rival factions and opposition parties that this group intends to be a force to reckon with when Nigerians go to the polls.
