The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Labour Party (LP) has set April 5, 2025, for the party’s gubernatorial primaries to select its candidate for the upcoming Anambra State governorship election.
This announcement was made by the party’s National Secretary, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, in a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday. According to him, the sale of expression and nomination forms will begin on February 10, 2025, while delegate forms will be available from March 20, 2025.
Obiora Ifoh, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, urged all interested aspirants to visit the party’s National Headquarters to collect the guidelines for the primaries and obtain additional information.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had previously announced that the Anambra State governorship election would take place on November 8, 2025. INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, made the announcement during a consultative meeting with political party leaders.
Yakubu explained that Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 mandates INEC to issue a notice for elections at least 360 days in advance. He provided a detailed schedule for the Anambra governorship election process as follows:

- Formal Notice of Election: November 13, 2024
- Party Primaries: March 20 to April 10, 2025
- Candidate Nomination Portal: Opens April 18 and closes May 12, 2025
- Publication of Final Candidate List: June 9, 2025
- Political Campaigns: June 11 to midnight, November 6, 2025
