Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan made a dramatic appearance at the National Assembly on Wednesday, as her supporters rallied in protest against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The demonstration called for Akpabio’s resignation, while pro-Akpabio groups organized a counter-protest, leading to tense scenes outside the legislative building.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has been vocal about her grievances against Akpabio. In December 2023, she accused him of sexual harassment during a visit to his residence.
Her complaints were reignited when she sought clarification regarding her motion on the Ajaokuta Steel Company. Additionally, she has criticized what she perceives as deliberate isolation from other senators over seating arrangements.

When Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan arrived near the Mopol gate, her supporters greeted her with enthusiastic cheers. They carried placards bearing messages like “Akpabio Must Go” and “We Stand With Senator Natasha.”

Civil society members joined the rally, urging authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into her allegations.
In response, a group of pro-Akpabio demonstrators countered with banners reading “We Say No to Natasha’s Serial Blackmailing” and “Akpabio Treated Natasha as a Daughter and Friend.”

Security forces intervened earlier in the day, using tear gas to disperse Akpoti-Uduaghan’s supporters who had gathered at the National Assembly Arcade, opposite Eagle Square.
Despite being initially driven back, the protesters regrouped at an adjacent location to resume their demonstration.

The protests began around 9 a.m., drawing significant attention and highlighting the growing tensions within Nigeria’s political sphere.
