The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has debunked a viral notice claiming that its student loan disbursement programme has been suspended, describing the document as fake and misleading.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the agency clarified that it had not announced any halt in its operations, urging students and stakeholders to disregard the circulating message. The false notice, widely shared on social media, alleged that the scheme had been paused due to “unforeseen operational circumstances.” However, NELFUND categorically rejected the claim, stating that no such directive had been issued.

“This document is fake. Kindly disregard the circulating letter on suspension of student loan disbursements,” the agency stated, reaffirming that its programmes remain ongoing.

The fund advised beneficiaries and the general public to rely only on its verified communication channels for accurate information, warning against the spread of unverified reports that could cause confusion. The clarification comes amid growing public interest in the federal government-backed student loan initiative, which is designed to expand access to higher education for Nigerian students.

NELFUND reiterated its commitment to transparency and continuous support for eligible students, assuring that all official updates regarding the scheme would be communicated through authorised platforms.
