Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has declared that he is not intimidated by the ongoing political crisis in the state. Speaking during the inauguration of residential quarters for Government House staff in Port Harcourt, Fubara emphasized his unwavering commitment to leading with honor, respect, and integrity, despite the challenges.
Governor’s Stance on the Crisis
Fubara stated that the worst outcome he could face is leaving office, but this does not deter him from doing what is right. He remarked, “I’m not scared of anything; the worst that can happen is for me to leave office. Am I leaving the earth? Will it stop me from existing? I’m not bothered about that.”
He further assured the people of Rivers State, saying, “I will lead you with honour, I will lead you with respect, and I will lead you with integrity, knowing that when I leave here, I will have questions to answer if I am called upon 20-30 years from today.”
Before addressing the crowd, Fubara invoked a passage from the Holy Bible, Philippians 3:18-19, underscoring faith and resilience in the face of adversity. He declared, “Despite everything, victory is sure.”
House Issues 48-Hour Deadline on Budget
Meanwhile, the Martin Amaewhule-led State House of Assembly has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the governor to present the 2025 budget to the lawmakers. This follows last weekend’s Supreme Court judgment, which ordered Amaewhule and 26 others to resume as legitimate members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The House resolution, delivered during the 130th legislative day of the Second Session of the Tenth Assembly, cited the Supreme Court’s directive for the stoppage of statutory federal allocations to Rivers State Government and the halting of spending from the Consolidated Revenue Fund pending the passage of an Appropriation Bill.
In their letter to the governor, signed by Martins Amaewhule, the House urged swift action to address the financial quagmire affecting the state. They emphasized, “We do not want Rivers State people to suffer. We, therefore, urge you to act fast and do the needful in the best interest of the good people of Rivers State.”
Local Government Transition
In line with recent developments, the chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Mr. Ezebunwo Ichemati, handed over all council property to the Head of Local Government Administration (HLGA), Comrade Clifford Paul. This move aligns with Governor Fubara’s directive following the Supreme Court judgment on local government administration.
Comrade Ichemati expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and acknowledged the positive work environment fostered by Governor Fubara. He highlighted the achievements made during their short tenure, noting a departure from past practices and a focus on touching lives and bringing fresh air to local government administration.

Conclusion
As the political landscape in Rivers State continues to evolve, Governor Fubara remains resolute in his leadership approach, emphasizing transparency and integrity. The upcoming days will be crucial as the state navigates through these challenges, striving to ensure stability and progress for its citizens.
