President Bola Tinubu has stated that the history of the Yoruba people would have remained incomplete if he had not won the last presidential election.
He made the remark on Sunday during the 8th-day Fidau prayers held in honour of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona.
The revered monarch, who passed away at the age of 91, was one of Nigeria’s longest-reigning traditional rulers, having ascended the throne on April 2, 1960. His death came just hours after the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, a close friend with whom he shared a bond dating back to the 1980s.
Speaking at the prayer gathering, Tinubu recalled how the late Awujale gave him his blessing and encouraged him to contest in the 2023 presidential election, assuring him of victory.

In his words:
“Our history would not have been completed carefully and richly if I had failed in the last election. I was successful because of your support and the blessing of the late Awujale.”
