The first female President of the Student Union Government of the University of Calabar, Blessing Alims, has graduated with a first class degree, capping a remarkable academic and leadership journey.
Alims, who studied Peace and Conflict Studies, also emerged as the best graduating student in her department with a cumulative grade point average of about 4.65.
Her achievement comes after making history as the institution’s first female SUG president, a position she held during a period marked by active student engagement and policy initiatives.
During her tenure, she introduced several interventions aimed at improving student welfare, including transport support and academic incentives for outstanding students.

Alims’ academic success has drawn attention not only because of her leadership role but also due to the challenges she overcame before gaining admission into the university.
Her journey from repeated examination setbacks to graduating with first class honours has been widely described as a testament to resilience and determination.
The development has been celebrated within academic circles as an example of how student leaders can balance governance responsibilities with academic excellence.
Observers say her accomplishment reinforces the growing influence of female leadership in Nigerian universities, while also inspiring students to pursue excellence despite challenges.
