The Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) has once again reiterated its commitment to maintaining a clean and healthy environment in Aba and across the state, urging residents to align with its vision of a “Clean Aba, Clean Abia.”
In a message to the public, the Deputy General Manager of ASEPA, Aba Zone, Elder Okezie Ezengwa, called on residents, business owners, and transport operators to adopt proper waste disposal practices, especially with the rainy season.
According to Elder Ezengwa, improper waste disposal, particularly in gutters, poses a major threat to drainage and increases the risk of flooding. He emphasized that “gutters are not ASEPA dustbins but channels for the smooth flow of rainwater.”
ASEPA is encouraging the use of ASEPA waste buckets, which are strategically designed to curb indiscriminate littering in the city. The agency is also reminding residents not to throw waste from moving vehicles or tricycles (Keke), stressing the importance of individual responsibility in sustaining the new level of cleanliness now visible across the city.
“The city is neat now, let’s maintain the new and clean Abia. This is our city and our town — protect her,” Elder Ezengwa said.
He also commended residents and community members who have consistently supported ASEPA’s efforts, describing them as “a remarkable plus to the movement” and praying for continued blessings on their dedication.
As the new week begins, ASEPA is calling on all stakeholders to recommit to its mission by prioritizing cleanliness in their daily routines and community activities.
