The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to delist its leadership led by David Mark, accusing the commission of yielding to political pressure.

In a strongly worded response, the party described INEC’s interpretation of a recent Court of Appeal judgment as flawed and contradictory, insisting it does not reflect the true position of the law.

ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi alleged that the electoral body had “caved to pressure” from the government, claiming the move was driven by fears over the party’s growing political momentum.

“We reject INEC’s interpretation of the Court of Appeal ruling,” the party said, arguing that the commission’s action undermines democratic principles and raises concerns about its neutrality.

INEC had earlier removed the names of David Mark and other members of the party’s National Working Committee from its official portal, citing a directive to maintain the status quo amid a leadership dispute within the party.

The commission said its decision was based on a Court of Appeal order directing all parties to refrain from actions that could prejudice the ongoing case before the Federal High Court.

However, the ADC insists the move is politically motivated, alleging a broader attempt to weaken opposition parties ahead of future elections.

The party said it is currently reviewing its legal options and will announce its next steps, while urging members and supporters to remain calm amid the escalating leadership crisis.

The standoff further deepens uncertainty within the ADC, as rival factions continue to battle for control, with the final resolution now resting on the courts.
