Hope Uzodimma

Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have reportedly removed Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, as Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) following an emergency meeting held in Abuja.

The decision was said to have been taken during a closed-door meeting attended by about 20 APC governors at the Ogun State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja on Thursday night.

The development came only hours after Uzodimma spoke on behalf of APC governors during the submission of President Bola Tinubu’s presidential nomination and expression of interest forms ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Reports indicated that discussions at the meeting centred on leadership changes within the governors’ forum, although details surrounding the reasons for the decision were still unclear as of press time.

Uzodimma has served as chairman of the PGF since May 2023, succeeding former Kebbi State Governor Atiku Bagudu. During his tenure, he played a prominent role in mobilising support for President Tinubu’s administration and strengthening coordination among APC governors nationwide.

The Progressive Governors Forum serves as the umbrella body for governors elected on the APC platform and remains one of the most influential blocs within the ruling party, particularly on issues relating to party leadership, elections, and national policy direction.

However, shortly after reports of his removal emerged, the PGF reportedly denied claims that Uzodimma had been removed as chairman, creating uncertainty over the actual outcome of the meeting.

As of the time of filing this report, the APC and the Progressive Governors Forum had yet to issue a detailed official statement clarifying the situation or announcing a replacement chairman.

The development has nevertheless intensified political discussions within the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections, especially amid ongoing internal realignments and preparations for APC primaries.
