The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has expressed condolences to the family of Squadron Leader Ahamefule Aham Man-Ugwueje, the Nigerian Air Force officer who died in Sunday’s plane crash in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Kalu, in a statement issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, also commiserated with the Abia State Government and the people of the state over the death of the officer.
The Deputy Speaker had earlier condoled with President Bola Tinubu, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, the Nigerian Air Force and families of the victims following the crash.
However, following the release of details of the victims by the Nigerian Air Force and confirmation that Man-Ugwueje was an indigene of Abia State, Kalu expressed deeper concern over the incident.
The Deputy Speaker, who represents Bende Federal Constituency, said he was particularly saddened by the death of the officer, noting that Man-Ugwueje had only recently married.
Kalu condoled with the officer’s young widow and the Man-Ugwueje family, urging them to draw strength from his service to the country.
He described the late officer’s service as an expression of bravery, patriotism and dedication to Nigeria.
Kalu assured the bereaved family of his support and prayed for the peaceful repose of Man-Ugwueje’s soul.
He also prayed for strength and comfort for the family as they come to terms with what he described as an irreparable loss.
