Super Eagles and AC Milan winger, Samuel Chukwueze, has advocated for increased attention to grassroots football as a critical pipeline for discovering future stars who can elevate Nigerian football on the global stage.
Speaking on Sunday at the final of the 4th Samuel Chukwueze All Stars Football League held at Ugba Community School, Umuahia, the Nigerian international stressed the importance of local competitions in uncovering raw talent and providing young players with exposure.
Chukwueze, who scored the decisive penalty in a shootout victory for his team, AC Milan FC, against IPOD FC, reflected on his personal journey, recalling how he was discovered at the same community school. He emphasized that consistent grassroots initiatives are vital to building a strong football culture in Nigeria.
“This is where it all started for me,” Chukwueze said. “I want more young talents to be discovered here and given the platform to shine. Events like this can change lives. I hope scouts and clubs are watching.”
He encouraged aspiring footballers to make the most of opportunities presented by local tournaments, adding that such platforms could attract the attention of national selectors and foreign clubs.
The AC Milan star’s continued commitment to his community through the All Stars League reflects a broader call for strategic investment in youth development. Chukwueze’s efforts align with growing calls for Nigeria to institutionalize grassroots scouting, with a focus on early talent nurturing and support systems that can transition players from local pitches to international arenas.

His initiative not only celebrates local football but also reignites conversations about the critical role of homegrown development in sustaining the future of Nigerian football.
