The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Abia State has expressed concern over the growing number of uncollected driver’s licenses at its Osisioma Driver’s Licence Centre. According to the Head of drivers license program Osisioma, SRC. O.O Egbuta, nearly 4,000 licenses remain unclaimed, despite efforts to clear backlogs and ensure timely production.

“As of last week we are looking at close to 4,000 uncollected drivers license pilled up here, we give the report on weekly basis, maybe at the end of this week it will reduce or increase depending on the collection rate plus the news ones printed from our head quarter, He said”
Why Are Licenses Still Uncollected?
While Speaking with NATIONAL CONCORD, Egbuta highlighted several reasons why many drivers license applicants have failed to retrieve their licenses.
These include:
- Loss of registered phone numbers, preventing applicants from receiving collection notifications.
- Failure to check SMS alerts sent by the FRSC.
- Reluctance or delays in visiting the office for collection.
“Our people are of this habit, when they misplace their sim they will go and get another number all together, the right thing to do is to make necessary Efforts to retrieve the line if the number is important to you, because that’s the one we have and the one we send SMS to, Ebuta sated”
He urged all applicants who have yet to receive a notification to visit the office directly, emphasizing that temporary licenses are only valid for 60 days.
Security Concerns and Collection Procedures
Egbuta also addressed concerns regarding accessibility, explaining that due to security risks, all license collections must be done at designated FRSC centers. This measure follows the vandalization and burning of the FRSC office in Aba South during a protest, which disrupted alternative collection points.
“What ever has advantage, has disadvantage, we had a center at Aba South LGA, but during the End SARS protest, some miscreants decided to attack our office without any justification and looted and burnt everything, the Corp is making effort to fix it, it will not be over night, He stated”

Beware of Fake Licenses
Warning against the dangers of obtaining fake licenses, Egbuta stressed that the FRSC has introduced advanced security features to differentiate genuine licenses from counterfeits. He cautioned that individuals involved in forgery will face serious legal consequences.
“I will commend the Corp marshall and the management team for their efforts towards safe guiding the license, the drivers license we issues has alot of features that protects it from external attack like Forgery, during designing and production we took cognizant of all these external factors and we puted security features to distinguish it from others – Ebuta stated”

Delays Due to Biometric Capture Issues
Egbuta further appealed to applicants who are yet to complete their biometric capture to respond promptly when contacted. He noted that system congestion caused by uncompleted biometric data is slowing down operations.
“I want to appeal to the people of Aba, to always be patient with FRSC as it relates to drivers license production, we are doing everything possible to make sure that the network is stable, this is a human thing and can develop issues at anytime, so when ever we call you for capturing, come and capture because sometimes they don’t, they may come when they want and the network maybe down then, He further stated”

SRC. O.O Egbuta
The FRSC urges all applicants with pending licenses to visit the Osisioma centre immediately to complete the collection process and avoid potential legal or operational issues.
