The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is reportedly prepared to offer Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle a new contract worth $100,000 per month, as negotiations continue over an improved deal.
Sources within the federation revealed that the proposed figure represents the ceiling the NFF is willing to commit, despite Chelle’s demand for a significantly higher pay package.
Chelle, who currently earns $50,000 monthly, has reportedly requested a new contract valued at $130,000 per month, arguing that the increase would also cover the salaries of his technical crew.
A top official familiar with the negotiations said the federation is open to reviewing his contract and meeting some of his conditions but is unwilling to exceed the $100,000 threshold.
“The Federal Government and NFF want continuity… but we are not prepared to offer more than $100,000 per month,” the source stated.
The development highlights the NFF’s desire to retain the Franco-Malian tactician while maintaining financial discipline amid growing demands within Nigerian football.
However, there are indications that the talks could collapse if Chelle insists on his higher salary demand. In that scenario, the federation may begin searching for a foreign replacement, having reportedly ruled out the option of appointing a local coach.
Chelle has previously defended his salary request, explaining that coaching national teams in Africa often requires head coaches to personally fund parts of their technical staff, making higher pay essential for effective performance.
Beyond salary, the coach is also said to be seeking improved working conditions, including better facilities, logistics, and greater control over team preparation and scouting.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Chelle has maintained that he remains committed to the Super Eagles and continues to prepare the team for upcoming international fixtures.
As negotiations continue, the outcome could significantly shape the future direction of Nigeria’s national team, particularly as the Super Eagles look to rebuild momentum ahead of major continental and global competitions.
