Nkeiruka-Onyejeocha

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, has resigned from her position, becoming one of several cabinet members to step down ahead of the 2027 election cycle.

Her resignation was announced in a statement shared on social media, where she expressed gratitude to Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve in his administration.

The move follows a directive by the president requiring ministers and other political appointees seeking elective office to vacate their positions before the March 31 deadline, in compliance with electoral regulations.

Although Onyejeocha did not specify the office she intends to contest, her resignation has been widely linked to political ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“It is with a heart full of gratitude that I announce my resignation,” she said, describing her exit as the end of a significant chapter in her public service career while affirming her continued commitment to national development.

A former member of the House of Representatives, where she represented Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency for over a decade, Onyejeocha also thanked ministry staff and stakeholders for their support during her tenure.

Her departure adds to a growing list of exits within the federal cabinet triggered by the president’s directive, signalling the early onset of political realignments as parties and aspirants begin positioning for the next electoral cycle.
