The Lagos State Football Association (LSFA), the organizers of the Bet9ja Foundation Ex-Internationals Cup, expresses profound disappointment regarding the regrettable incidents that transpired during the Round of 16 matches held on Friday, June 26, 2026.This competition aims to bring together our esteemed Ex-International Football Legends while inspiring and guiding the upcoming generation of footballers in an environment characterized by friendship, discipline, sportsmanship, and mutual respect. Regrettably, the events of yesterday did not meet the expectations set for all participants in this tournament. *Incident at St. Jude’s Primary School and Mobolaji Johnson Arena.* The second-leg match between FC Omoruyi and FC Obafemi was halted in the 80th minute due to violent confrontations involving fans from both clubs.Upon reviewing initial reports, it is clear that the violence stemmed from the supporters of both teams. It is important to note that the match officials were neither attacked nor threatened, suggesting that the chaos was not a result of officiating decisions but rather the behavior of individuals linked to both clubs.Consequently, the Lagos State Football Association has made the following rulings:1. In accordance with Article 4 of the 2026 Bet9ja Foundation Ex-Internationals Cup Framework, both FC Omoruyi and FC Obafemi are hereby expelled from the competition.2. Both clubs will not be invited to participate in this tournament for a duration of three (3) years, effective immediately.3. At Mobolaji Johnson Arena Onikan, the team associated with FC Dominic is also suspended from this tournament for two years for instructing players to leave the field after a penalty was awarded to FC Babington.4. These measures are implemented to uphold the integrity, reputation, and goals of this competition and to deter future acts of violence. While football is a sport fueled by passion, violence has no place in our game. *Incident at Navy Barracks, Ajegunle.* The Organising Committee has received significant reports regarding the match between FC Udeze and FC Nieketien. It was reported that during the game, there were repeated calls urging the referee to “open the match.” Regardless of the intent behind these comments, any statements that could exert undue pressure on match officials or incite the crowd are unacceptable and may lead to heightened tensions.Consequently, the Lagos State Football Association issues a strong warning to FC Nieketien and all individuals affiliated with the team. Any behavior, action, or statement that intimidates match officials, provokes opponents, or incites spectators will result in strict disciplinary measures if it happens again.Additionally, all Ex-Internationals are reminded that they serve as ambassadors for Nigerian football. Their behavior both on and off the field should embody the values they have upheld throughout their esteemed careers. Younger players, coaches, and fans look to them as role models, and they must consistently exhibit exemplary leadership.Lastly, let this serve as a reminder to every team, official, player, supporter, and Football Legend involved that the success and longevity of this competition rely on the collective behavior of all stakeholders. The Bet9ja Foundation is not obligated to sponsor this tournament in the upcoming year or in any future editions. Their ongoing support will depend on the quality of our organization, the discipline exhibited during the competition, and the positive impact and visibility the tournament brings to their brand.Any act of indiscipline, violence, or misconduct undermines the value of this competition and puts at risk the opportunities for young footballers who look to our Legends for motivation. No player, official, Football Legend, adopted club, or supporter is greater than the game itself. We have a responsibility to the next generation to safeguard the image of football, maintain the integrity of this competition, and ensure that our partners take pride in their association with our collective efforts. The Lagos State Football Association is fully dedicated to organizing a competition that fosters football excellence, respect, unity, and fair play. We will not hesitate to enforce appropriate sanctions on any individual or team whose behavior threatens these principles. We thank all participating teams and stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation as we strive to uphold the highest standards of discipline throughout the tournament.SignedDele Gbajumo Chairman Organising Committee Bet9ja Foundation Ex-Internationals Cup
