Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has sparked fresh political conversation in Abia State by publicly addressing the possibility of supporting the current Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, for the 2027 gubernatorial election.
Speaking during a press conference on Tuesday, the former Abia State Governor was characteristically candid, stating that while he holds no grudge against Benjamin Kalu, the onus lies on the latter to openly declare his political intentions.
“If he wants to run for governor, let him come out and say so. We are ready to support and win, I’m a party man, a very good one. If Benjamin Kalu wants to run, he should declare. I will support him fully.” Kalu said.
However, Kalu was quick to point out that the party must avoid internal clashes, subtly alluding to potential conflicts of interest.
"Ben and my younger brother cannot run together. That is the truth. You cannot be a holder and also be a beholder, he said suggesting the need for a clear line of political succession and unity within the ranks.
In what could be described as a reaffirmation of his loyalty to his party, the senator added emphatically,
"I will pull the trigger for my party. That means I will do anything, anything,to ensure we win."he said
Orji Uzor Kalu also addressed critics who question his loyalty and political maneuvers, saying the party structure in Abia remains strong. He mentioned his influence through grassroots movements like the OUK Movement and the Reality Organisation, both of which he claimed are capable of delivering victory if mobilized effectively.

While Benjamin Kalu has not publicly declared any ambition for the 2027 governorship race, Senator Kalu’s remarks appear to serve as both a challenge and an invitation to a call to clarity in a season already teeming with political undercurrents.
With the 2027 elections still two years away, the battle for Abia’s political future is already taking shape, and all eyes will now be on Benjamin Kalu’s next move.
