Fresh violence has erupted in Benue State, as suspected herdsmen launched deadly attacks on Tuesday evening in Agatuand Apa Local Government Areas, leaving several people feared dead.
In Agatu LGA, a well-known local, Sunday Dutse, was reportedly killed along the Odugbeho-Ogbaulu road. Dutse, a native of Odejo and younger brother to a former local government chairman, had been displaced by an earlier herdsmen invasion and was taking refuge in Ogwule-Kaduna, still within Agatu.
Elsewhere in Apa LGA, a separate ambush occurred earlier in the day in Edikwu-G’Icho community, where three youths were killed. Two of the victims were from Edikwu-G’Icho, while the third was reportedly from Ugbokpo.
These latest incidents come just days after a high-level visit by senior military officials, including the Chief of Army Staff, who had assured residents of reinforced security in the region.
Despite those assurances, communities in Benue continue to face unrelenting attacks, sparking renewed fears and calls for urgent, decisive action from both state and federal authorities.
