The Accord Party, Abia State Chapter, has rejected a press statement credited to one Professor Christopher Imumolen in which he claimed that the party’s National Working Committee had endorsed Governor Alex Otti for a second term and directed the state chapter to mobilise for his re-election ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
In two separate statements issued from Umuahia on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, and signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Pastor David Okafor, the party described Imumolen’s publication as “false, unauthorised, and of no effect,” adding that it amounted to fraudulent impersonation of the party’s leadership.
The statement said Imumolen’s publication was titled “ACCORD PARTY NATIONAL WORKING COMMITTEE ENDORSE GOV. OTTI, DIRECT THE STATE CHAPTER TO SUPPORT AND WORK FOR HIS RE-ELECTION” and had been widely circulated across Nigerian media.
The Accord stated categorically that Imumolen is not its National Chairman and does not hold any recognised position within the party’s constitutional leadership structure at either the national or state level.
According to the party, its duly elected and recognised National Chairman is Barr. Maxwell Mgbudem, and all official communications, endorsements, and policy positions of the Accord are issued solely through his office.
“Any claim or statement issued by Professor Imumolen on behalf of the party is a fraudulent misrepresentation and impersonation,” the party stated.
The Accord also denied that its National Working Committee held any meeting at which Governor Otti’s second-term bid was discussed or any endorsement was made.
“The National Working Committee of the Accord has not held any meeting, nor issued any directive endorsing His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti for a second term or instructing the Abia State Chapter to work for his re-election. The party has not taken any official position on the 2027 governorship election in Abia State,” the statement read.
The party said Imumolen’s conduct was not an isolated act but part of what it described as “a sustained pattern of dubious representation” that has repeatedly undermined the party’s integrity and misled both the public and the media.
It further said the episode amounted to “a deliberate attempt to mislead the public, the media, and His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, and to sow confusion within the party’s structure.”
The Accord warned Imumolen to immediately stop all further use of the party’s name and identity, saying failure to comply would leave the party no option but to initiate legal and internal disciplinary action against him without further notice.
“The Party reserves the right to pursue all legal and internal disciplinary actions against individuals engaged in impersonation and the unauthorised use of the party’s name,” the statement said.
The party urged all media organisations, political actors, and members of the public to disregard the said statement in its entirety and treat it as null, void, and of no legal or political effect.
It added that the Accord would not be bound by any agreement, commitment, or directive purportedly made by Imumolen or any other unauthorised individual acting in the party’s name.
