Aba Power has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing customer concerns over rising electricity bills, recognizing the financial strain caused by economic challenges and inflation. The company also attributes the increase in bills to the improved power supply across its coverage area, which has naturally led to higher consumption.
Meter Rollout Plans
To ease the burden on customers, Aba Power announced that its free mass metering program will commence soon, with over 50,000 meters expected to arrive between April and May. This is in addition to nearly 20,000 meters already being installed since the start of the year. Customers can also access prepaid meters through the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) scheme, with guaranteed swift installation upon payment.
The company emphasized that prepaid meters will allow customers to better manage their electricity usage and expenses, offering transparency and control over consumption.
Clarifying Legal Proceedings
Addressing recent legal developments, Aba Power stated that the court case at Isialangwa High Court remains at a preliminary stage, with no judgment issued against the company. The company had challenged the jurisdiction of the court over a case filed by three claimants representing an unrecognized entity, Aba Electricity Consumers Forum. While the court allowed the three claimants to continue in their personal capacity, they failed to provide evidence that they represented Aba Power customers.
Aba Power also raised concerns about alleged misinformation and media propaganda by the claimants, who have reportedly incited customers to resist paying tariffs and even resorted to violent actions against the company’s staff and property. Instances of staff injuries, vehicle damage, and equipment confiscation have been reported. The company warned that legal action will be taken against individuals responsible for these acts of sabotage.
Furthermore, the company dismissed allegations that a court ruling halted its operations or overturned the official tariffs set by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). It condemned recent petitions by the claimants to law enforcement agencies, falsely accusing Aba Power of contempt of court. The company described these actions as a desperate attempt to disrupt its business operations.
Call for Continued Cooperation
Aba Power urged customers to continue making timely payments to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply. The company highlighted its ongoing efforts to maintain and expand its power infrastructure, including securing diverse gas supply arrangements and improving network maintenance.

With sustained efforts, Aba Power reassured customers of its dedication to providing reliable electricity services while ensuring fairness and accountability in its operations.
The statement was issued by Edise Ekong, Brand and Communications Manager, Aba Power.
