Nigeria’s 36 state governors have unanimously agreed to dismantle illegal roadblocks and scrap multiple, unregulated taxes they say are worsening food inflation and causing inefficiencies in the country’s supply chain.
The resolution came after a late-night meeting of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) held in Abuja on Wednesday. Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who read the communique, said the decision was in response to findings presented by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and key ministers, showing how checkpoints, poor infrastructure, and unlawful levies are hindering food and livestock transportation nationwide.
Signed by NGF Chairman and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the communique affirmed the governors' commitment to work with the federal government to streamline levies, remove unauthorized checkpoints, and ease the movement of goods across states — a move seen as crucial to stabilizing food prices and curbing rising inflation amid worsening insecurity in several regions.
