The lawmaker representing Aba North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Uzodike Aaron has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) In a major political twist that could reshape the dynamics of Abia politics ahead of 2027.

The development marks a significant realignment in Abia’s political landscape, especially considering Uzodike’s turbulent journey to the State Assembly.

Hon. Uzodike, who initially contested the 2023 State Assembly election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), secured his seat after a protracted legal battle.

In November 2023, the Court of Appeal of Nigeria, sitting in Lagos, voided the election of the Labour Party candidate Destiny Akaraka Nwagwu and declared Uzodike the duly elected representative for Aba North.

Despite the appellate court ruling, his swearing-in was delayed for several months, sparking political tension within the Abia State House of Assembly. He was eventually inaugurated in August 2024 by the Speaker, Emmanuel Emeruwa, bringing an end to months of legislative uncertainty in Aba North.

Uzodike’s defection to the APC is expected to send shockwaves through Abia’s political circles.

The APC, which is positioning itself to expand its influence in Abia ahead of the 2027 general elections, gains a sitting lawmaker with grassroots structure in Aba,a politically strategic commercial hub.

Analysts say the move could:
• Strengthen APC’s foothold in Aba North.
• Trigger fresh alignments within the State Assembly.
• Influence party calculations for 2027 governorship and legislative contests.
• Spark possible counter-moves by PDP and Labour Party stakeholders.

With political calculations already underway across the state, observers believe this defection could be one of the early indicators of broader realignments ahead of the next election cycle.
