Enyimba manager Stanley Eguma says his team remains a “work in progress” despite clinching the Tico Select preseason trophy with a hard-fought victory over Rangers on Sunday.
Eguma, who lifted his first silverware since returning to Aba, watched his side edge past Rangers thanks to Pere Anderson’s decisive 62nd-minute strike. The win capped ten days of competitive football, but the coach insists the bigger picture matters more than preseason glory.
“It’s good to win because it breeds confidence, but this is still preseason, Our main objective was to assess the players especially the new ones and see how well they blend into the squad. We’re still building.” – Eguma said.
Enyimba booked their spot in the final by defeating Inter Aba 2-0 in Saturday’s semifinal in Aba, before making the trip to Enugu. Rangers, meanwhile, came from behind to beat KMK Academy 3-1, setting up an oriental derby preview for the 2025/26 NPFL campaign.
Eguma expressed gratitude to the club’s management for allowing the team to take part in the tournament, stressing that it provided valuable insight into areas needing improvement before the season kicks off.

“This competition has helped us build momentum, We’ll work hard to address the weak spots before the league begins.” -He added
The People’s Elephants will open their NPFL season with an away clash against newly-promoted Barau FC in Kano.
