An officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service has been fatally stabbed by his wife during a domestic dispute in Umuahia, Abia State, local police sources and residents confirmed. The tragic incident reportedly stemmed from an alleged cheating dispute, leaving the community in shock and raising concerns about rising incidents of intimate partner violence.

According to preliminary reports, the officer was stabbed multiple times by his spouse during a heated argument at their residence. Neighbours said the quarrel reportedly escalated after accusations of infidelity by both partners, but details are still emerging as investigators work to piece together what led up to the fatal attack.

Rescue efforts were reportedly initiated immediately after the stabbing, but the victim succumbed to his injuries before he could receive comprehensive medical attention. Law enforcement officers were called to the scene and took control of the situation, arresting the suspect and securing the immediate area.

Police authorities later confirmed that the suspect — the wife of the deceased immigration officer — has been taken into custody for questioning. She will be charged in connection with the killing as the investigation progresses, officials said, adding that forensic and eyewitness evidence is being gathered to support the prosecution.

Family members and neighbours expressed shock and grief over the incident, describing it as a senseless tragedy that has left loved ones devastated. Friends of the victim alleged that the couple had experienced relationship challenges prior to the incident but had not sought intervention or counselling.

Community leaders in Umuahia have called for calm and urged renewed focus on addressing domestic violence, noting that underlying issues such as mistrust and communication breakdown often escalate into fatal outcomes. The incident has reignited conversations about the need for stronger support systems and preventive measures for troubled households.
