The Abia State Government has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in a fatal crash along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, pledging support for the families of the victims. State officials described the tragedy as heartbreaking and assured that the government would provide necessary assistance to those affected by the accident.

In a statement released by the Abia State Commissioner for Information, the government extended condolences to the bereaved families and sympathised with all those impacted. Authorities said efforts were underway to ensure that survivors receive medical care and that families of the deceased are supported through the difficult period.

The crash, which occurred on the busy expressway linking Enugu and Port Harcourt, reportedly involved multiple vehicles and led to several casualties. Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos and destruction as emergency responders worked to evacuate the injured and clear the wreckage.

Officials from the Abia Government stressed the importance of road safety and called on motorists to exercise caution, especially on major highways known for heavy traffic and frequent accidents. They also reiterated the need for collaborative efforts between state authorities and federal agencies to address highway safety challenges.

Governor Alex Otti praised first responders and emergency personnel for their swift action at the scene, saying their efforts helped prevent further loss of life. The state government also outlined plans to reach out to families of the departed with palliative support and counselling services where necessary.

The tragic crash has once again fuelled public calls for improved road infrastructure and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, with many stakeholders urging a sustained campaign to reduce road accidents across the region.
