Michael Chukwudi, CEO of Kun Khalifat Football Club, has firmly ruled out selling the club’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) slot, but says the team would welcome adoption by the Imo State Government.
Speaking on Magic FM Aba on July 29, 2025, Chukwudi stated, “We will not sell our NPFL slot to any team, but if the Imo State Government steps in to adopt the club, we are open to that.”
Amid growing speculation about the club’s future, Chukwudi expressed confidence in Kun Khalifat’s readiness for the new NPFL season, declaring, “Kun Khalifat will not finish lower than 10th in the NPFL.” He also dismissed any notion of pressure, despite the club being the sole representative of Imo State in the topflight this season. “We don’t feel any pressure being the only NPFL team from Imo State,” he added.

His comments highlight the club’s determination to retain its league status and contribute meaningfully to the football landscape in Imo State. Talks with potential partners, including the state government, are expected to continue as Kun Khalifat FC gears up for the 2025/2026 season.
