The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has expelled former Deputy Governor Sir Ude Okochukwu along with several of his allies, citing serious anti-party activities. The party accuses Okochukwu of secretly endorsing Governor Alex Otti’s 2027 re-election bid and planning to defect to the Labour Party.
Party sources allege that Okochukwu recently held a closed-door meeting with Governor Otti, during which he pledged support and was reportedly promised the Labour Party’s Abia North senatorial ticket. In response, the PDP expelled him and key associates from party platforms, including Obike Mascot Imo, Barr. Olughu O. Kalu, Obinna Ekekwe, Fabian Nwankwo, and John Okoro.

The PDP claims these individuals undermined the party’s grassroots structure in Abia North while pretending to remain loyal. Two of the expelled members are already affiliated with the Labour Party. The party also accused Okochukwu of organizing secret recruitment efforts to aid defections and of attempting to secure the ADC governorship ticket—an effort the ADC leadership reportedly rejected.
Confirming the expulsion, PDP Chairman Elder Amah Abraham stated, “We are strengthening our systems ahead of 2027. Disloyalty or sabotage will face firm consequences. The PDP welcomes progressives, not pretenders.” A senior party official described Okochukwu’s actions as a betrayal, warning that the party would not tolerate such conduct.
