In a statement, the station’s management said Chikwere’s suspension was due to “conduct deemed detrimental to the station’s values and operational integrity.” However, sources told reporters the decision came after Chikwere used a popular talk show to criticize the governor’s handling of local infrastructure projects and recent policy decisions — remarks that reportedly angered state officials.
Known as “The Sound of Now,” Legacy FM said the suspension takes effect immediately and will remain in place pending an internal investigation. An interim General Manager has been appointed to keep operations running.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ebonyi State chapter, has urged a review of the decision. NUJ Chairman Samson Nwafor warned the move could “stifle free expression and set a dangerous precedent for journalists in the state.”
Chikwere has yet to comment, and the Ebonyi State government has issued no official response.
On social media, reactions have been sharply divided — with some residents accusing the government of pressuring the station, while others argue that Chikwere crossed professional boundaries. The outcome of the station’s investigation is expected to clarify the circumstances and potential implications for media independence in Ebonyi State.
