The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has suspended prominent lawyer Chief Mike Ozekhome from the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) pending the outcome of ongoing disciplinary proceedings.
The decision was reached during the committee’s meeting, where members considered matters relating to the legal practitioner’s conduct and the preservation of the integrity of the prestigious SAN title.
According to the committee, the suspension will remain in effect until the final determination of disciplinary proceedings currently before its Disciplinary and Ethics Sub-Committee and other related matters.
As part of the directive, Ozekhome has been instructed to refrain from presenting or holding himself out as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria throughout the duration of the suspension.
The LPPC stated that the measure was taken to safeguard the dignity, prestige, and credibility of the SAN rank while due process is allowed to run its course. The committee emphasized its commitment to maintaining high standards of ethics, professionalism, and discipline within Nigeria’s legal profession.
The development has generated significant interest within legal circles, as disciplinary actions involving holders of the SAN title are relatively uncommon. The Senior Advocate of Nigeria rank remains one of the highest professional distinctions conferred on legal practitioners in the country.
While the committee did not publicly disclose the specific allegations underlying the disciplinary process, the suspension will remain effective pending the conclusion of all relevant proceedings.
