The wife of the Governor of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, has celebrated with Mrs. Ifeoma Ehighibe, who recently gave birth to quadruplets at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia. She assured the family of continued assistance from her office.
Mrs. Ehighibe, from Umuabali, Umuokpara in Umuahia South LGA, welcomed three boys and a girl through Cesarean Section last Thursday. Already a mother of two, the new delivery has expanded her family to six children — an outcome many described as a rare blessing.
Represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Maureen Aghukwa, the First Lady said she immediately mobilized support to ensure that both the mother and babies received adequate care, describing the birth as “a miracle for the family and for Abia State.”
Acknowledging the challenges of raising six children amid economic pressures, Mrs. Otti pledged sustained support for the Ehighibe family. She emphasized that her intervention would go beyond the hospital visit to ensure the children’s proper upbringing.
She also appealed to husbands not to abandon their families in such situations, stressing that her office remains open to support households blessed with multiple births.
Highlighting broader initiatives, the First Lady noted that crèche facilities have been introduced in some government offices with more underway to create child-friendly workplaces for nursing mothers. She further encouraged women across the state to embrace exclusive breastfeeding for healthy child growth.
Mrs. Otti reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to implementing health and social policies that improve citizens’ well-being, while commending FMC staff for their dedication to safe deliveries.
Also speaking, the FMC Medical Director, represented by the Head of Nursing, Mrs. Nnenna Imo, praised Governor Alex Otti and his wife for prioritizing women’s welfare through consistent interventions in the hospital.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Women Affairs, Mrs. Chinenye Nwaka, described the visit as timely and impactful, bringing joy to the medical facility.

In an emotional reaction, Mr. Chibueze Ehighibe, father of the quadruplets and a staff of the Nigerian Correctional Centre, expressed deep gratitude to the First Lady. He revealed that although multiple births run in his family, this was the first recorded case of quadruplets.
The visit concluded with donations of baby clothes, diapers, food items, two bags of rice, household essentials, and cash for the Ehighibe family. Other nursing mothers at FMC also benefited from the First Lady’s generosity.
