The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has lauded the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for its achievements in revenue generation, operational reforms, and anti-leakage measures, crediting these strides with boosting the nation’s fiscal capacity.
In a press briefing on Monday in Abuja, NANS Public Relations Officer, Comrade Samson Adeyemi, described the NCS’s performance under Comptroller General Adewale Adeniyi as “outstanding,” noting that for the first time in Nigeria’s history, a significant portion of the 2025 National Budget is being funded by Customs-generated revenue.
“This is not just a statistic on paper but a testament to strategic leadership, operational discipline, and the dedication of officers and men of the NCS,” Adeyemi said.
The student body commended reforms in port operations aimed at blocking leakages, streamlining processes, and enhancing professionalism in trade facilitation — changes they say have improved the ease of doing business and restored confidence in Nigeria’s trade systems.
NANS gave special recognition to Comptroller B.O. Olomu of the Apapa Area Command, praising his one-year tenure for setting “unmatched records” in revenue performance, compliance enforcement, and transparency.

The association also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for extending the tenure of the Comptroller General and his deputies, describing it as a move consistent with the Renewed Hope Agenda principle of rewarding merit and loyalty.
“As the foremost voice of Nigerian students, we declare our full support for the ongoing reforms in the Nigeria Customs Service,” Adeyemi stated, urging Nigerians to back the Service’s efforts to block revenue leakages, strengthen compliance, and grow national revenue.
