The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has urged Nigerians living abroad to continue projecting a positive image of the country by celebrating its achievements and serving as worthy ambassadors wherever they reside.
She made the call during a visit to distinguished Nigerians in the United Kingdom, including Christopher Adegoke, Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council, and Rosaline Ogunro, the Mayor of Islington.
Dabiri-Erewa described Adegoke’s emergence as chairman of the council as a testament to the resilience, excellence and leadership qualities of Nigerians in the diaspora. She also commended Ogunro for her contributions to public service and leadership.
During the visit, the NiDCOM boss also celebrated the academic achievements of two outstanding Nigerian medical graduates. She praised Dorcas Akanbi, who graduated from Rostov State Medical University in Russia with an impressive cumulative grade point average of 4.90 out of 5.00, and Dr. Monilola Adeshina, who emerged as the valedictorian and overall best graduating student of the Medical Class of 2026 at the Medical University of Silesia in Poland.
According to Dabiri-Erewa, the achievements of these Nigerians reflect the brilliance, determination and global competitiveness of the country’s youth, adding that such accomplishments continue to elevate Nigeria’s reputation on the international stage.
She encouraged Nigerians abroad to remain focused on excellence and to continue contributing positively to their host communities while maintaining strong ties with their homeland.
The NiDCOM chairman stressed that although every nation faces challenges, it is important for citizens to celebrate success stories and highlight the positive contributions Nigerians continue to make across the world.
She further urged members of the Nigerian diaspora to support national development through investments, skills transfer, innovation and professional expertise, noting that their contributions remain vital to the country’s growth and prosperity.
Dabiri-Erewa reaffirmed NiDCOM’s commitment to recognising and celebrating outstanding Nigerians in the diaspora whose accomplishments continue to enhance the country’s global image.
