Nigeria Congratulates Hungary’s President-Elect András Baka

The Nigerian Government has congratulated Dr. András Baka on his election as the President-elect of Hungary, describing his judicial experience and commitment to the rule of law as valuable qualities for his new responsibilities.

The congratulatory message was conveyed by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, on behalf of the Federal Government. The ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, issued the statement on Friday, August 14, 2026. 

Nigeria also congratulated the Hungarian National Assembly on the successful conclusion of the presidential election and wished Baka a successful tenure as he prepares to assume office. 

Nigeria Highlights Baka’s Judicial Experience

The Federal Government highlighted Baka’s extensive experience in both the Hungarian and international judiciary.

According to the statement, the President-elect previously served as President of Hungary’s Supreme Court and as a Judge of the European Court of Human Rights.

Nigeria said his judicial background and commitment to constitutional governance, institutional independence and the rule of law would be important as he assumes the responsibilities of Hungary’s Head of State. 

The government expressed confidence that under Baka’s leadership, Hungary would continue to promote democratic values, strengthen institutional stability and advance national unity.

It also expressed the expectation that Hungary would maintain constructive engagement with the international community. 

Nigeria Reaffirms Commitment to Hungary

The Federal Government used the occasion to reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to the longstanding cordial relationship between both countries.

Nigeria said it remains prepared to deepen bilateral cooperation with Hungary across several areas of mutual interest.

These include political and diplomatic relations, trade and investment, education, culture, science and technology, as well as people-to-people exchanges. 

The Nigerian Government subsequently wished Baka a successful tenure and assured the Hungarian Government and people of Nigeria’s continued friendship.

The development comes as both countries seek to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in areas capable of delivering economic, educational and diplomatic benefits to their citizens.
