Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has announced plans to commence the construction of a new Umuahia Stadium City before the end of the year, describing the project as a major investment in sports and urban development.

The governor made the disclosure while receiving Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze and his associates at the Government House in Umuahia. Chukwueze had visited the governor to express appreciation for the support and solidarity shown by the state government during the burial of his late mother.

According to Governor Otti, the proposed development will go beyond a conventional sports facility. He revealed that the government has already acquired the land for the project and is currently conducting feasibility studies.

The governor explained that the Stadium City concept would include sporting facilities, hotels, residential estates, and other commercial attractions designed to stimulate economic growth and transform the area into a modern sports and leisure hub.

He also encouraged Abians at home and in the diaspora to take advantage of investment opportunities that would emerge from the project, assuring them of government support and incentives.

Governor Otti congratulated Chukwueze on his achievements in football and commended him for projecting the image of Abia State positively on the global stage. He assured the football star of the government’s continued support and encouraged him to remain connected to his roots despite the loss of his mother.

Speaking during the visit, Chukwueze praised the governor’s developmental efforts, noting that the visible transformation across the state reflects purposeful leadership and a commitment to progress.

The AC Milan star said he was particularly impressed by the improvements in road infrastructure and the overall transformation of Umuahia, which he described as significantly different from what existed in previous years.

Chukwueze also welcomed the proposed Stadium City project, describing it as a strategic investment that would create opportunities for young athletes and strengthen sports development in the state.

He further disclosed plans to invest in youth and sports development initiatives in Abia, emphasizing his desire to give back to the community that contributed to his success.

According to the footballer, supporting young talents and creating opportunities for future generations remains a priority, as he seeks to contribute to the growth of sports in his home state.
