Tinubu Approves 1,000 Forest Guards for Oyo, Deploys Special Rescue Team Over Abducted Pupils

President Bola Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in Oyo State and ordered the deployment of a specialized security unit to intensify efforts to rescue pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area.

The announcement was made during a visit by a high-powered Federal Government delegation to Esiele and Yawota communities, where armed kidnappers abducted pupils and teachers from three schools on May 15.

The delegation, led by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, conveyed Tinubu’s concern over the incident and reassured affected communities of the government’s commitment to securing the safe return of the victims.

As part of measures aimed at strengthening security in the area, the Federal Government approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in collaboration with the Oyo State Government. The initiative is expected to improve surveillance and security operations within forested areas that have increasingly become hideouts for criminal groups.

Community leaders and lawmakers also used the opportunity to request the establishment of a military base in the area. The delegation assured residents that the proposal would be forwarded to the President for consideration.

In addition, Tinubu directed a specialized rescue team with advanced operational capabilities to intensify efforts toward securing the release of the abducted pupils and teachers. Government officials emphasized that the rescue operation would be intelligence-driven and carefully coordinated to ensure the safety of the victims.

Addressing residents, Gbajabiamila said the President remains deeply concerned about the plight of the abducted children and teachers and is committed to deploying every available resource to achieve their safe return.

The delegation included top security officials such as the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun; the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru; and other senior government representatives.

The officials also paid a condolence visit to the palace of the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, and met with the family of a deceased teacher affected by the incident. The delegation conveyed the President’s sympathies and pledged government support for the bereaved family.

The visit underscores the Federal Government’s efforts to address growing security concerns in affected communities and reassure residents of its commitment to protecting lives and restoring safety.
