Hon. Chris Nkwonta, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on the South East Development Commission (SEDC), has called on the people of Abia South Senatorial District to rally behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) and work towards securing victory in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at a gathering of party members from the six local government areas of Abia South in Akwete, Nkwonta emphasized the need for an aggressive membership drive to transform the APC into the dominant political force in the region.
He urged party leaders to unite and strengthen the party’s presence, noting that APC must improve upon its performance in the 2023 elections, where it placed third.
“If you are in a party but fail to win elections, you gain nothing in return,” Nkwonta stated. “We must actively recruit new members and build a formidable APC in Abia South.
In 2027, we must ensure President Bola Tinubu is re-elected and that APC wins the Abia State governorship.”
He further stressed the importance of party unity, dismissing any divisions within APC in Abia South.
“There is no Chris Nkwonta faction or any other faction,we must come together as one. When making demands at the national level, the key question will be: how many votes did you bring in? Political influence is tied to electoral success, and now is the time to rebuild and solidify our party.”
Nkwonta also commended President Tinubu for his commitment to the South East, particularly the establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC).
He highlighted the commission’s role in addressing regional infrastructural deficits, including roads and railways.
“We must work harder to secure Tinubu’s re-election because a stronger APC in Abia State means greater dividends of democracy for our people,” he said.
“We are already seeing the benefits through key appointments, developmental projects, and economic policies. The South East is in safe hands under President Tinubu.”
Nkwonta’s call to action underscores the APC’s determination to expand its influence in Abia South, positioning itself for a more competitive showing in the 2027 elections. on Growing Insecurity in Benue State
Blessing Onuh, the lawmaker representing Otukpo-Ohimini Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has issued a dire call for intervention from President Bola Tinubu to address the escalating insecurity in Otukpo, Benue State.
Onuh described the ongoing attacks and killings as a national emergency that demands immediate attention from the federal government.
The lawmaker expressed her deep concern over the alarming frequency of violent incidents in her constituency, citing the recent brutal murder of a retired customs officer, Onche Akatu, in Asa 2 community. Two members of Akatu’s family were also abducted during the attack.
Onuh lamented that the killings in her constituency have reached an outrageous level, with innocent people being senselessly murdered daily.
Onuh appealed to President Tinubu to direct security agencies to intensify efforts in apprehending the perpetrators, bringing them to justice, and restoring peace to the affected communities.
She also urged the youth in her constituency not to resort to jungle justice or reprisal attacks, emphasizing that taking the law into their own hands would only escalate the crisis.

The lawmaker’s plea comes as the region grapples with the dire consequences of the persistent attacks, including abandoned farmlands and worsening food shortages. Onuh assured her constituents that she would work closely with political leaders and security agencies to put an end to the heinous acts plaguing her constituency.
