Former senator representing Zamfara Central, Kabir Marafa, has formally defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), in a move that adds to ongoing political realignments ahead of the next general election.

Marafa announced his decision in Abuja during a formal reception held at the residence of Seriake Dickson, where party leaders and supporters gathered to welcome him into the NDC fold.

Speaking at the event, Marafa said his decision was based on policy-driven considerations centred on inclusion, equity and internal democracy. He added that political parties must provide credible platforms for members to contest elections and serve the people effectively.

The former senator’s defection comes barely weeks after he reportedly encouraged his supporters in Zamfara State to begin registration under the ADC, making the latest development a notable shift in the North-West political landscape.

Political observers say the move could strengthen the NDC’s growing presence in the region, while also reshaping alliances in Zamfara and neighbouring states ahead of the next election cycle.

Marafa wished his former party well as he completed the switch, signalling an amicable departure despite the surprise nature of the defection.
