Former Labour Party (LP) vice-presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has dismissed the opposition coalition formed under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as a deceptive political arrangement incapable of rescuing Nigeria from its present state of underdevelopment.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Baba-Ahmed said, “They are deceiving us.” He argued that the coalition, which has attracted heavyweight politicians such as David Mark, Atiku Abubakar, Nasir el-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rauf Aregbesola, does not represent a genuine solution to the nation’s challenges.
Baba-Ahmed, who was Peter Obi’s running mate in the 2023 presidential election won by President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), reaffirmed his loyalty to the former Anambra State governor. He expressed his preference for Obi to remain within the Labour Party and emerge as its presidential flag bearer in 2027.
“I’m in the Labour Party. I’m a Peter Obi man. I still want Peter Obi to come back to the Labour Party and contest the 2027 election,” he declared.
When asked if he would consider being a running mate again, Baba-Ahmed responded: “If Nigeria is still around and there is an electoral system to follow. My love for Nigeria is undying, and I would appropriately associate with groups and individuals who are like-minded to restore Nigeria.”

He further hinted that there are only two individuals he would agree to deputise: “The first one has not said anything. The second one is Peter Obi. I’m always with Peter Obi until he decides not to.”
