The Labour Party in Abia State is undergoing a strategic repositioning to strengthen its influence and ensure continued development in the state. With the recent extension of the party’s membership registration and validation exercise through the Directorate of Mobilization and Integration (DMI), the party reaffirms its commitment to progress and good governance.
A Call for Unity and Resilience
Acting State Chairman, Hon. Prince G.O. Ndubueze, has called on party members to remain steadfast, emphasizing that the Labour Party has been instrumental in delivering the much-needed transformation to Abia State.
He credited the party-led administration of Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti (OFR) with breaking the cycle of stagnation and failed promises that had previously plagued the state.
Speaking at the conclusion of the inauguration of caretaker committees across the 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs), Hon. Ndubueze urged party leaders to explore all avenues to strengthen the party and enhance the welfare of its members.
He highlighted the importance of reconciling aggrieved members.
“Every political party experiences internal conflicts and disagreements. However, when properly managed, such disputes provide an opportunity for unity and growth. Labour Party is no exception to these challenges He stated.”
He further noted that the good governance currently being enjoyed in Abia State has attracted local and international development partners.
This, he argued, has made the party a preferred choice for politicians seeking a platform committed to progress.
“Recently, two members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State House of Assembly Hon. Dennis Rowland Caesar (Isiala Ngwa South) and Hon. Lucky Nweke Johnson (Isuikwuato) defected to the Labour Party. More defections are expected because Labour Party remains the winning party in Abia State.”
Addressing Internal and External Challenges
Hon. Ndubueze cautioned against individuals attempting to exploit the party’s challenges for their own gain. He stressed:
“As the ruling party in Abia State and the strongest opposition party in Nigeria today, we cannot afford to be complacent. There are those who will attempt to destabilize our progress, but we must remain vigilant.”
Regarding rumors of elected Labour Party members defecting to other parties, Hon. Ndubueze dismissed such notions, questioning why anyone would leave a thriving political environment for an unstable one.
“Look at Nigeria today who is celebrating the existence of APC? As Aminu Tambuwal rightly said, those joining APC today are politicians without conscience. They cannot point to any meaningful achievement of the party.”
Clarifications on LGA Elections and Party Structure
Hon. Ndubueze addressed misconceptions regarding the recently concluded Local Government elections in Abia State. He emphasized that the Labour Party fully participated and is actively addressing areas where it believes the process was manipulated.
He also clarified the distinction between the Labour Party (LP) and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), stating:
“The National Chairman of the Labour Party remains Barr. Julius Abure, as affirmed by the congress held on March 27, 2024, and recognized by INEC, the Federal High Court, and the Court of Appeal.”
The Acting Chairman reiterated that the party does not recognize any independent structures outside of the Labour Party, reaffirming the ongoing efforts by the Directorate of Mobilization and Integration (DMI) to register all members of the Obedient Movement into the party.
A Call for Loyalty and Commitment
Hon. Ndubueze emphasized the need for unwavering loyalty from elected officials who benefited from the party’s platform, including the governor and legislative members.
“The ruling government in Abia State is a product of the Labour Party. It is improper for those who gained political positions through the party to turn their backs on its leadership. Destroying the platform that provided support is unacceptable.”
He warned against treating the Labour Party as a mere vehicle for personal political ambitions, stating:
“We are not a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) where individuals ride in for their benefit and then abandon the platform. Going forward, we will not tolerate such actions.”

Conclusion
Hon. Ndubueze reaffirmed the Labour Party’s commitment to delivering good governance in Abia State. He urged all members to remain committed to the party’s vision and work together to sustain the progress made so far.
“A stitch in time saves nine. We must address challenges swiftly and ensure that our party remains strong and united for the continued development of Abia State.”
