The All Progressives Congress (APC) has postponed the inauguration of its National Campaign Council for the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election.

In a statement released Thursday via the party’s official X handle, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka said the event—earlier scheduled for September 11, 2025, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja—has been put on hold. He noted that a new date would be announced soon.

Morka assured party members and stakeholders that the postponement would not derail preparations for the November 8 governorship election.

“The party deeply regrets any inconvenience this change may cause and assures all stakeholders of its unwavering commitment to ensuring a successful outing in the November 8, 2025, Anambra State governorship election,” he stated.

Political Context

The delay comes as political parties intensify preparations for what is expected to be a highly competitive race involving the APC, the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Labour Party.

Anambra has remained firmly under APGA’s control since 2006, with both APC and PDP struggling to break the dominance. In the 2021 governorship election, APC candidate Senator Andy Uba finished third behind APGA’s Charles Soludo and PDP’s Valentine Ozigbo, highlighting the party’s long-standing challenges in the South-East.

Despite previous setbacks, the APC has been working to consolidate its presence in the state through federal influence and alliances with local politicians. The November poll is widely regarded as a litmus test of the party’s ability to expand its political base in the region.
