A delegation from the Kingdom of the Netherlands recently visited the Abia State Environmental protection Agency (ASEPA) Recycling Center in Aba to assess ongoing progress and explore potential collaborations aimed at enhancing the state’s waste-to-wealth initiatives.

This visit aligns with the Abia State Government’s commitment to transforming waste management into a sustainable and economically viable industry.

The visit follows an earlier engagement between Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, a Dutch delegation, and representatives of Kaltani Company, where discussions focused on waste-to-wealth strategies. During the meeting, Governor Otti emphasized the state’s shift from mere waste disposal to resource conversion, advocating for investments rather than aid to drive sustainable development.
Leading the Dutch delegation was Deputy Consul-General Peter Keulers, who expressed keen interest in collaborative waste management and circular economy projects that could deliver both economic and environmental benefits.

Kaltani’s CEO, Engr. Obi Charles Nnanna, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to waste collection and recycling efforts in Abia State.
During the visit, ASEPA’s Deputy General Manager Aba Zone, Elder Okezie Ezengwa, guided the delegates on a tour of the recycling facility, expressing gratitude for their interest and potential partnership.
Speaking to journalists, the Dutch delegates commended the center’s rapid progress, noting that its success in a short time demonstrates the viability of recycling as a thriving business in Aba.

The ASEPA Recycling Center, commissioned earlier last week was built in collaboration with the Food and Beverage Recycling Alliance (FBRA), the center represents a significant step toward sustainable waste management and environmental conservation.

The facility processes recyclable materials such as PET containers and aluminum cans, contributing to the state’s circular economy while economically empowering local residents.

Additionally, Elder Ezengwa highlighted ASEPA’s partnership with media organizations to raise public awareness about recycling and its economic benefits.
This strategic move underscores the administration’s pragmatic approach and the notable achievements of ASEPA under Governor Alex Otti’s leadership.

The visit by the Dutch delegation signals growing international interest in Abia’s waste management reforms and reinforces the potential for strategic partnerships to drive innovation and sustainability in the state’s environmental sector.
