The Federal Government has formally declared 16 years as the minimum age requirement for admission into all tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, during the opening session of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Policy Meeting currently taking place in Abuja.
Dr. Alausa emphasized that the new age policy is final and non-negotiable, warning institutions against admitting candidates below the stipulated age.
In addition, the Minister issued a stern warning that any admission process conducted outside the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) would be considered illegal, with individuals and institutions involved facing prosecution.
He also cautioned heads of institutions to steer clear of admission irregularities or risk legal consequences.

“The law will take its course on anyone or institution found undermining the integrity of the admission process,” Alausa stated.
