Hamisu Garba, a Fulani youth leader in Plateau State, has firmly stated that no group can intimidate or force the Fulani out of the state, insisting they are legitimate citizens with deep roots in the region.
In an exclusive chat with Daily Post, Hamisu emphasized that he and many other Fulani people were born, raised, and educated in Plateau. Citing the Nigerian constitution, he said anyone born in a state has the right to claim it as their state of origin. “My parents and siblings were born here. I have my indigene certificate, signed by the district head and local government chairman. Plateau is the only home I know,” he said.

Hamisu expressed concern over growing hostilities, saying there is a targeted campaign to demonize and expel Fulani people. “Yes, there are bad elements among us — just as there are in other tribes. But it’s unfair to blame an entire ethnic group for the actions of a few. Every tribe has its share of criminals, not just Fulani,” he noted, referencing remarks once made by Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

He further alleged that banditry in the state isn’t exclusive to Fulani people, claiming some local natives are recruited and paid to aid criminal operations. Hamisu recalled a time when communities coexisted peacefully, celebrating holidays together and intermarrying. “We’ve always promoted peace among our people and want the same from others. Enough of the profiling — we are Plateau people too and we are not going anywhere,” he concluded.
